After a state passes the Model EMS Compact legislation, and its signed into law by the state's governor, a Commissioner is appointed to represent the state on the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice. This Commission is a governmental body with one representative per member state and it is responsible for the operations of the EMS Compact.
In accordance with the Bylaws, the Commission's activities include:
- the promulgation of binding rules and operating procedures
- enforcement of Commission Rules, Operating Procedures and Bylaws
- provision of dispute resolution
- sharing of licensure history of Member State EMS personnel and coordination of significant investigatory information
